As always, it's been a busy term at our College and everyone deserves a rest!
Please enjoy a look back at (almost) everything our students and staff have been up to throughout Term 2 in the video below.
Wishing all our families a safe and happy break.
We look forward to seeing everyone refreshed and raring to go for Term 3 on Tuesday 9 July.
Senior Interhouse Athletics Carnival
For the first time, both days of the Senior House Carnivals were held at an external venue, the Gold Coast Performance Centre in Runaway Bay. We also welcomed the 12-year-old Year 6 students to the senior day to compete against their Year 7 peers to compete for APS Selection. This international-standard facility provided an exceptional environment for our students, resulting in outstanding performances across the board and widespread participation. We also observed record training attendance leading up to the Interhouse Carnivals, which translated into excellent results, closely contested races, and a boost in house spirit.

RACI Titration Competition
The RACI Titration Competition aims to ignite a love for chemistry amongst high school students, particularly hands-on aspects, to develop their scientific skills and understanding. This competition aligns with a compulsory titration practical in Unit 3 Topic 1 Equilibrium - Volumetric Analysis of the Chemistry Senior Syllabus. Students who prepare for the Titration Competition will gain confidence in the laboratory skills necessary to conduct volumetric analyses, and in the analysis of the data obtained.
The purpose of the competition is to encourage students who enjoy Chemistry - especially practical Chemistry - and to recognise proficiency. The competition also provides an opportunity for participants to work together in teams against other schools in a university laboratory at Griffith University, thereby gaining invaluable experience and insight.
Success in the competition required the application of various titration skills and a solid grasp of relevant theory to successfully complete calculations. As participants continuously sought new knowledge and skills during lunch breaks and after school leading up to the event, and experienced setbacks along the way, they demonstrated the character strengths, 'Love of Learning' and 'Perseverance'. These character strengths are vital for success in today’s professional landscape.
A.B. Paterson College teams came in 5th-7th place. Molly Read, Zara Khan and April Chen placed the highest of all the A.B. Paterson College teams and Tiantian Shen receiving a Credit for her accuracy.
Next term, Banjo’s Science Club will host more competitions and weekly challenges with the support of our UQ Science Ambassadors: April Chen, Molly Read, Tiantian Shen, Sienna Gostelow, and Ramandeep Sethi.

Better Business Conference 2024
This week, 22 of our Year 12 students participated in the 2024 Griffith University Better Business Conference. The program gave the students an opportunity to engage with Griffith University program leaders, lecturers, PHD students and student leaders within the Business School, who gave an insight into university life as well as the various courses offered at Griffith University.
The next part of the program consisted of the students solving a financial crime that has occurred. This involved the students collaborating in small groups and working with invoices to ‘follow the money’ to investigate who is the financial criminal.
With prizes on the line, including an Apple iPhone, Apple iWatch, eScooter and a holiday to Tangalooma, the students were enthusiastic and worked very well alongside other schools in attendance.
One of our A.B. Paterson College teams managed to beat the other 17 teams to take out the day’s competition.
Congratulations to Jessica, Naad-e, Tallal and Charlie on coming in 1st place!
The major price winners will be decided at an award ceremony later in the year.
It was a fantastic day for the students to get a glimpse into what university study looks like as well as networking with other students and university academics.
ETHAN SHIELDS & MEGAN REIBELT | YEAR 12 BUSINESS TEACHERS

Gold Coast Futsal Cup
Last Thursday 6 June, we sent a team made up of Year 4-6 students to the Gold Coast Futsal Cup at the Coomera Indoor Sports Centre.
The students had a blast at the tournament and came away with some priceless life lessons!
They discovered the joys of winning, but also how to manage the disappointment when they don't! The experiences our students get as part of a holistic education approach of the College is wide ranging and aligns to our mission of: "To challenge the individual to achieve, and to act with purpose and character".
It was great to see that both ‘challenge to achieve’ and then also acting with ‘character’ were in plentiful supply.
Congratulations to our students who represented the College exceptionally and showed true sportsmanship throughout the day.
Student Achievement - Daniel Kouzmenkov
Year 4 student, Daniel Kouzmenkov, competed at the JMMAC Australian National Junior MMA competition held on the Sunshine Coast over 7, 8 and 9 June.
Daniel qualified through winning first place in a series of preliminary competitions earlier this year and was chosen to represent Queensland in his age category (10-11 years old).
Daniel placed second overall and received a silver medal.
Congratulations Daniel!

Success of the Quiet Zone at Our Athletics Carnival
We are excited to announce the introduction of a Quiet Zone at this year's Athletics Carnivals. This space is designed to provide a calm and relaxing environment for any students who may feel overwhelmed during the event.
This space was created to provide a calm and supportive environment for students who may find the bustling atmosphere of the carnival overwhelming. We believe this addition will enhance the experience for everyone and ensure a more inclusive and supportive atmosphere.
Feedback from both students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive. Many students appreciated having a place to retreat and recharge, which allowed them to participate more fully in the day's events.
We are thrilled with the success of the Quiet Zone and are committed to continuing to provide this space at future school events.
