This term has been absolutely jam-packed in Year 6, filled with exciting transitions and bittersweet "lasts" in junior school. From celebration nights to memorable events, each experience has been a chance to reflect on our journey while looking forward to the future. It is a whirlwind of emotions and activities as we prepare for the next chapter in our education!
In technology, we have been using Minecraft Education to design sustainable cities, exploring concepts like sustainable food, waste management, transport, and energy to envision a future that prioritises sustainability. This hands-on project has allowed us to creatively implement our learning while promoting eco-friendly practices. Additionally, as part of our media arts unit, we have been creating short films that convey important messages about the necessity of caring for our planet. Using storyboarding techniques, we have incorporated various film methods, including camera angles, viewpoints, lighting, and sound, to enhance our storytelling. This engaging combination of projects not only deepens our understanding of sustainability but also empowers us to advocate for a better world through our creative expressions.
In HASS this term, we delved into the fascinating topics of Federation, levels of government, and Indigenous perspectives. This engaging unit allowed students to participate in 'mock' parliament sessions, where we debated various topics and gained a deeper understanding of how Australia was formed. Through these activities, we have not only learned about the structure of our government but also developed a greater appreciation for our country's history and the diverse perspectives that shape it.
In science, our plant-growing project has been a huge success! We have been investigating the conditions that certain plants need to thrive, exploring factors like light, water, and soil quality. Each student wrote a scientific investigation that included a hypothesis, observations, discussion, results, and conclusion, allowing us to document our findings. This hands-on experience has been invaluable, providing students with a deeper understanding of how plants grow and function. It has been exciting to see our efforts come to life and to witness the growth process firsthand, fostering a greater appreciation for the natural world around us!
In Year 6, we have begun our exciting transition into secondary school by visiting home rooms and participating in VPD lessons. This week, we experienced two transition days where we met our heads of houses and got a sneak peek into what some of our classes will be like next year. It has been a whirlwind of emotions—fun, nerve-wracking, and even a bit emotional as we embrace this significant change. Everyone is filled with a mix of excitement and nerves about the journey ahead, but we are all extremely proud of the resilience you have shown during this transition. It is a wonderful time of growth as we prepare for the challenges and adventures that await us!
And of course, we could not end the year without the Year 6 Celebration Night, a perfect opportunity for students to dance the night away and commemorate the conclusion of their junior school years. The theme, "Shine Your Brightest," set the tone for a fun-filled evening filled with dancing, performances, and a delicious Guzman y Gomez dinner. It was a truly memorable night, allowing everyone to celebrate their achievements and friendships, making it a fantastic way to wrap up not only the school year but also their entire junior school experience. The joy and excitement in the air were a testament to the wonderful journey we have shared together!
