The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is an internationally recognised program, which aims to motivate young people aged 14 years and over to become involved in a balanced program of voluntary self-development activities. Students develop both leadership and teamwork skills by partaking in physical recreation, learning a new skill, providing a service to the community and participating in bushwalking expeditions.

Participants of the Award learn to manage their time effectively to achieve the above goals and show a regular commitment over a specified length of time, dependent upon the level of Award chosen. As the onus of the award is for young people to demonstrate their ability to manage their involvement in many fields, students are assisted in directing their own program and the activities that they wish to pursue, so that each student has a tailored Award Plan. To assist in achieving the ‘expedition phase’ of the award however, students participate in expedition training sessions held here at the College, and expeditions are led by College Staff.

The College currently supports students in gaining all three levels of the Award - Bronze, Silver and Gold - and, as the level of Award progresses, there is a greater expectation on the young person to plan, organise and manage the different aspects of it.
