A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club is run independently to the school swimming programme. It is a registered club within Swimming Queensland. Students can join the club for an annual membership fee, making them eligible for club nights, and enabling them to compete at any Swimming Queensland sanctioned meet. Membership to A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club is only available to students within the College. Currently our swimmers range in age from 7-14 years.
Becoming a member of A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club will give children the opportunity to practise the skills needed for competitive swimming. Club nights are held fortnightly from September through to May. During club nights, times are recorded, with points allocated for participation, equalling personal best times and improvement on times. At the end of the swimming season, awards are given for:
- Highest point score
- Most improved swimmer in each stroke
- Coaches' encouragement awards
- Outstanding performance
The A.B. Paterson College Swimming Club caters for all ages and abilities from recreational swimmers through to swimmers competing at national levels. Our ASCTA qualified coaches have a goal to help every swimmer achieve their full potential, and to provide a friendly and supportive environment.
Hi, I’m Brooke(11 years). I have been part of the A.B. Paterson College swim club for the past five years. I love swim club because it is really fun to hang out with friends at the pool, and everyone is so friendly with each other. Every second Friday, we have a canteen set up, and each age group races to try and beat their best times. I love being and keeping fit, so this is a cool and exciting way to do that.
The Club is open to all students 7 years and older. Club members are registered with Queensland Swimming. Fees cover Queensland Swimming membership, insurance, a Club swimming cap and our annual award event. Membership forms can be obtained from the swimming pool.

Friday Club Nights
Club nights are held each fortnight in Terms 4 and 1. The main goal for all swimmers is to record personal best times (PBs). Club nights will give swimmers an opportunity to establish PBs over 25m (9 years and under) and 50m, 100m and 200m (10 years and over) in each stroke and the individual medley (depending on the proficiency of the swimmer). Times are recorded, with points allocated for participation, equalling personal best times and improvement.
For each Club Night to run successfully, we need volunteers to help with setting up of marshalling, timekeeping and, of course, the BBQ – so please don’t wait to be asked - Volunteer! It is a good way to meet people and also enables the regulars to have a break and watch their kids swim! We are looking at putting a roster in place, which will mean that you may be called on once or twice a season to do various jobs.
