Rugby at the College has a proud history. Historically, the sport has seen steady growth in both popularity and success. As a community game, rugby has the capacity to bring out many lifelong qualities in the young men of A.B. Paterson College, including determination, perseverance, dedication and loyalty.
The APS Competition comprises eight schools in total, and regular seasonal fixtures are played on both Thursday (Years 4 – 6) and Friday (Years 7 – 12). At the end of the regular season, a finals' day programme is held to determine final placings. The coaches, who have differing levels of expertise, are all passionate about the game. We encourage parents, who have experience, to come forward and assist in areas of specialisation.
In addition to regular APS fixtures, the College often hosts schools from around the globe, who tour to the Gold Coast as part of their development. When we host these schools, it provides further opportunities for our players to continue to develop their game sense and skill set.
Not only do we welcome these touring parties, but we also encourage our own to branch out to commit to playing club rugby. As an Ed Rugby affiliated school of Australian Rugby, we are always actively promoting and engaging in opportunities for our students to enjoy the sport many consider the “Gentleman’s Game.”
