Gold Coast Northern Division Premier Team Champions Achieving Both Gold and Silver Medals:
On Tuesday, 13 June 2017, students from the Junior Chess Club participated in a Gardiner Chess Interschool Chess Competition hosted by Pacific Pines State School. The competition was very strong with 301 chess players competing from 18 schools across the Gold Coast Northern Division. Our Junior Chess Club sported 36 players competing across the Premier Division, as well as A, B and C Divisions.
All participating Chess Club students are congratulated for their chess commitment, sportsmanship, friendly competition and developing mastery of chess strategies. Overall, 14 of our students received merit ribbons for achieving 4.5 points or greater (out of a possible top of 7 points). A.B. Paterson College students who received merit ribbons included: Ray Li, Thomas Kapetanovic, Samuel Zou, Nolan Brezovszky, Matthew Manjikian, Tyson Brand, Hamish Snow, Ben Canning, Paige Bolton, Summer Wang, Kenta Yamaguchi, Abhiraj Sarmah, Mitchell Chen and Stephanie Lincoln. Of particular commendation is our ‘master’ chess player, Ray Li who scored full points on the day and is currently placed as the Gardiner Chess Gold Coast North Division highest ranked student.
Our Junior Chess Club placed two teams in the Premier Division, with both teams taking out the honour of receiving first and second placings. Team 1 consisting of Ray Li, Nolan Brezovszky, Tyson Brand and Artem Belozerov will be receiving the Premier Team Champions gold medals. Team 2 consisting of Thomas Kapetanovic, Samuel Zou, Matthew Manjikian and Timothy Yau will be receiving the Premier Team Second Place Champions silver medals. Gardiner Chess will present these medallions to our premier students early next term and congratulate all Chess Club players on their personal successes throughout their full day of competition.
