SAT Resources on the USA College Board website
The College Board website is important for students wishing to apply for tertiary courses in the United States of America (USA) as this is where you register to sit for the SAT, a test required for entry to many USA universities and colleges. The following information is available on the website. The Twitter page is also useful.
Tertiary Studies Expo (TSXPO) Brisbane - 1st weekend in Term 3
This is an important event for students in South-East Queensland. It is an opportunity to talk to representatives from Queensland and interstate universities, TAFE Queensland, private colleges, the Defence Force, the Queensland Police Service, Gap Year programs and other education and training organisations about their courses and career pathways. The expo will be held from 10am – 4pm on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 July 2017 at the Royal International Convention Centre, RNA Showgrounds, Brisbane. The website provides information about the exhibitors, the seminar program and competitions. Year 10, 11 and 12 students, with a passion for social media, can register to be a 2017 TSXPO Student Ambassador and help promote the expo. Student Ambassadors will have a chance to win a $100 Myer voucher or a $50 Event Cinemas Voucher. Click on ‘Competitions’ on the homepage for more information about this and other competitions.

University of Melbourne (UMelb)
Interstate Student and Family Information Day for interstate domestic students – This event will be held on Monday 10 July 2017 from 9am – 5pm at the University of Melbourne, Parkville campus. The day will focus on the application process, scholarships, student services, the student experience and accommodation options. Register to attend this event here.

Bond University Student for a Semester program
Year 11 and 12 students participating in this program can experience life as a university student as well as get a head start on their university studies before they finish high school. A pass in a Student for a Semester subject may provide credit towards a Bond undergraduate degree. In addition, students who successfully complete two subjects will be eligible for direct admission into most Bond degree programs at the end of their Year 12 studies. Some course restrictions do apply. Applications for the September 2017 semester will open on Friday 30 June 2017. Information for the September semester will be on the Bond website shortly.
Queensland University of Technology (QUT) updates
Discover STEM holiday workshops - QUT is offering hands-on holiday workshops in June/July for students in Years 7 – 12. With a range of interesting topics, the workshops give students the opportunity to broaden their STEM knowledge and apply it in an innovative real-world context. Find out more and register here.
Discover Health holiday workshops - QUT is holding a one-day school holiday event on 30 June 2017 for students in Years 10 – 12 to learn about Health at QUT. Students will participate in the Health Fusion Team Challenge Kickstart. This is a collaborative, fun group activity that showcases how numerous health disciplines contribute to patient care. Scholarships help students overcome financial and personal hardships to attend university - More than 30 students were recently presented with a Tim Fairfax AX Learning Potential Fund Scholarship worth $5,000 – $7,500. Join QUT libraries or access free online resources - There are many free QUT library resources available to help you with your studies. You can access the same tools used by QUT students to help with organising your assignments, improving your academic writing and research, referencing, preparing for exams and more. Also, if you are a Year 11 or 12 student at a Queensland school, you can join the QUT library and borrow resources to help you at school. Visit the QUT Library Schools’ Program website for details.
Elite athletes and sport at QUT - If you are an elite athlete, sportsperson, manager or coach you may be eligible for bonus OPs/entry ranks, support with managing your student life and funding for competitions and travel expenses, as well as scholarships (see the QUT Elite Athletes website). Even if you are not an elite athlete, you can get involved in sport at QUT by joining a premier or recreational sporting team, or making the most of the swimming pools, gyms and sporting stadiums and fields on campus.
Robotronica 2017 – This event will be held on 20 August 2017. This all-day, all-ages free event will include demonstrations, workshops, games and discussions. University of Queensland (UQ) updates
2017-18 UQ Young Scholars Program applications now open - This program provides high achieving Year 11 students with an opportunity to discover, learn and engage with UQ's academic community and like-minded students from across Queensland. UQ Robogals Workshop – This one-day workshop is for girls in Years 7 – 12. It will be held during the school holidays on Thursday 29 June 2017. On the day, students will be able to try hands-on robotics activities and meet some of the current UQ female Engineering and IT students. Visit the website to purchase tickets ($25) for the workshop.
Robotics holiday workshops – UQ offers holiday workshops for Year 7 – 12 students in Introduction to Robotics, 26 June 2017, and Artificial Intelligence, 27 June 2017. B Music (Honours) audition applications – An audition is a prerequisite for this course. The due date for submitting a written (by post or email) application for audition is Monday 14 August 2017. The Queensland Course Guide 2017: A catalogue of private college courses
This guide contains information about courses offered by private education and training providers in Queensland. These providers are members of the Australian Council for Private Education and Training (ACPET). ACPET members are required to adhere to a code of ethics and provide quality courses. The courses listed in the Guide span a broad range of study fields including business, computing, health, beauty, fitness, childcare, community services, creative industries, trades, horticulture and many more.
