Junior Chess Club – Interschool Competition

One Hundred Percent Attitude:

You just know your chess players are right on track when you hear – even before the first tournament has commenced – Year 2 student, Hannah Dooley call, “Best day ever! We get to play chess all day!”.

You can see the glow of fulfilment as all ten A.B. Paterson College Chess Teams head out for each tournament game. On his very first attendance at Interschool Chess Competition, Year 1 student, Oliver MacDonald was sorted and off, disappearing into the crowd to check his own tournament round posting and find his correct seating placement.

Across the day we had successes and disappointments, but every student held their head high and was always ready for the next round. After seven tournaments, against 23 schools and 469 chess players, our Team 3 was victorious in achieving Gold Medals in the Division B Team Championship. Congratulations go to Calvin Liu (Year 3), Aidan McIntyre (Year 3), Paris Liu (Year 3) and Ruvindu Siriwardana (Year 5).

Students requested that their newsletter article celebrate the top playing male and female students from our Junior Chess Club. Leader Board standings by the end of play were:
