Great Start for 2019

A very warm welcome and best wishes for 2019. It has certainly been a very busy and exciting beginning, and everyone is to be congratulated on the positive culture that is very evident at the College this year. The Year 12s are very determined to lead the way and are to be commended on their commencement to their final year and we wish them well in their leadership endeavours.

It is just a delight to walk around the Junior School, and the staff are to be congratulated on creating such an amazing learning environment. There was great excitement as the Junior School Leaders received their badges at the Year 4 – 6 Assembly on Tuesday and many students have either started before school and after school activities or will be commencing next week.

On the sporting field, House spirit has already been on full display with the Interhouse Volleyball and Touch Competition held during Week 1. It was wonderful to see team members cheering each other on.

With Activities Week in the Senior School, including the fantastic IGNITE: Ideas with Impact program for the Year 11s, 2019 has certainly begun with all cylinders firing. We are so pleased to have Alder Constructions on board, for a second year, as event sponsor and we wish to thank Corney & Lind Lawyers for offering free legal advice to our winning team, should they wish to pursue their business dream.

Musical auditions for Wicked are well underway and it is with great anticipation we wait on the announcement of the cast.

Swim Trials for 9-12-year-old students on Thursday demonstrated the brilliant talent of our young athletes as we prepare for the APS carnivals. Swimming and Netball Clubs are also to be congratulated on their great work and for the opportunities they provide for our students.

Some of the Hinterland District Trials have been conducted and even some Regional Championships have already been held with the following students being selected to attend State Championships:

  • South Coast Aquathlon Team – Jonas Longhurst & Riley Grimmer
  • South Coast Water Polo Team - Jorjia Rogers & Finn Pearson (reserve)
  • South Coast Tennis Team - Darina (Dasha) Kamenoff

Good luck to the following students for the upcoming Regional Championships:

  • Hannah Marshall - Softball
  • Ronak Dadhe - Cricket
  • Mitchell Parkes – Cricket
  • Kaleb Baines – Australian Rules Football

Please also submit any achievements in activities outside school so they can be acknowledged, and good luck for a great year ahead.

Ian Taylor
Director of Activities
