2018 - A Fantastic Year!

With the end of the year upon us, it is a wonderful time to reflect on what we have achieved in 2018 and look forward to the opportunities and challenges that lay ahead in 2019. As always, the year has been filled with a wide variety of events for the College community to celebrate the growth and development of our students in both academic and co-curricular areas. With the recent Speech Night Awards, Colours and Academic Awards being presented, students can reflect on the progress they have made, whether in the classroom or in their co-curricular endeavours, and can begin planning how they are going to achieve their goals for Semester 1, 2019.

Semester 2 has been filled with exciting opportunities and a huge variety of events to take part in. Whilst the Year 12 students finalised their QTAC applications and considered their next adventure, the Year 11 cohort was just getting started in planning a collective vision for A.B. Paterson College in 2019. The College musical, The Sound of Music, was a roaring success and each and every student, member of staff and parent volunteer must be congratulated for the astounding production. I continue to be wowed each year by the efforts of all involved.

As the end of Term 4 approached, we farewelled our Class of 2018. Our newest Old Collegians spent their final days at the College with their peers, thanking their teachers for the support they have provided over the years and saying goodbye to younger students who will soon be in their shoes. The achievements of all students were celebrated at Speech Night and as the week progressed more and more tears flowed as the students said goodbye to their Homerooms and Houses in the final assemblies.

Our Year 11 students have started to contemplate their career goals and the strategies they need to put in place to ensure they are realised. They will also be considering what they want to achieve in their final year of schooling, looking ahead to the many exciting and varied leadership opportunities and events that take place across the College year; Formal, carnivals and QCS Tests to name but a few.

The Year 10 students have commenced Unit 1 of each of their courses and are planning and making decisions for their future beyond the College. They have also been working closely with younger year groups during their SELF classes, arranging teambuilding workshops for students in Years 7 and 8. Looking ahead to 2019, these students will be starting to consider leadership pathways and will commence their leadership application process midway through 2019.

In looking forward to all the opportunities that lay ahead, it is important that we rest and recharge over the upcoming holidays; reflect on the achievements and challenges of the year and spend time with our families and friends. I would like to thank every member of our College community; students, parents, friends and staff, for their ongoing support of the College. The opportunities available at A.B. Paterson College simply would not exist without everyone working together, and this is what makes our College so special. I wish you all a wonderful break. This is the perfect opportunity for us all to refocus ahead of what promises to be an exciting and inspiring 2019 at A. B. Paterson College.
