Our dedicated Junior Chess Club players have displayed perseverance, a strong sporting spirit and obvious enjoyment of the game when competing in the Gold Coast Primary North Interschool Competition.
30 students from Years 1 to Year 6 set off for Saint Stephen’s College, on Tuesday 13 March, determined to do their best during an exhausting day of chess tournaments, requiring intense concentration.
At an individual level, Aiden Zhang (3B) aced his competitors by achieving a win in all seven games. This was a massive feat, considering this was Aiden’s first experience of interschool competition. Aiden’s result earned him the Gold Medal for the highest individual score in C Division.
Bronze Medals were awarded, at the team level, to our B division competitors. Team members Junoh Han, Ruvindu Siriwardana, Ethan Vu and Agan Pillai are commended for this achievement. Within the bronze-winning ABPC Team 2, special recognition is extended to Junoh Han for his strong individual results. Junoh was 4th place getter within B division’s individual score list.
Congratulations are also extended to our Merit Ribbon recipients Zach Wang, Rishabh Nama, Archie Zirbel and Sam Atkinson. Special mention goes to Seeret Arora, Matthew Morris, Daniel Wang, Mitchell Chen and Ethan McIntyre for their high placings within divisional lists.
Win or lose, big smiles were the order of the day.
