Love, Laughter and Learning in Prep!

This term in English our generative topic is All About Me. Our students have been listening to and reading different stories in order to explore text structures and patterns in both fiction and non-fiction books. We have been discussing our feelings and experiences within each story read. Prep students have been discussing their personal experiences and linking this back to each book they read. We have also been looking at the features of writing, including using a capital letter at the start of every sentence, finger spacing between words and putting a full stop at the end of each sentence. Our students are enjoying writing a simple sentence about themselves. For example: “I like…” or “I can...”.

To assist our students with their writing, we have been learning two letters a week and discussing their sounds. As part of our letter studies program, last Friday, our Prep students had a Crazy Hat Day! All children were asked to bring in their favourite hat and enjoyed writing about their hats, modelling their hats and sharing with their friends as to why it is their favourite or what sort of hat it is. There were lots of laughs and giggles throughout the day. Learning is always lots of fun in Prep!

Well done to all Prep students for making a wonderful start to your first year of big school. We are all looking forward to watching you grow and develop as this year progresses.
