A Night to Remember...

Saturday, 24 February began early for the girls of A.B. Paterson College Class of 2018, as we travelled to our various makeup and hair appointments in preparation for the big night, the culmination of months of planning. After dodging rain with umbrellas and shimmying into our dresses, we were ready to travel in style to our Senior Formal, held at Links Hope Island.

The nerves started to kick in as we began the seemingly endless car ride to the venue and we waited in anticipation for the final drive up to the red carpet. Excitement and adrenalin mingled as we heard the cheers of the crowd and prayed that we didn’t fall over. The red-carpet entry was a spectacular blend of camera flashes and cheering crowds, and felt like it was over in an instant. It was wonderful to have so many students and parents turn up to support us during one of the biggest events of the year.

The foyer was packed full of students, parents and friends complimenting the stunning outfits worn by all. Then came the big moment – we lined up with our partners to be introduced to Board Chair, Mr Tanner and Mrs Tanner and Principal, Mr Grimes before entering the dining room. We all paused, looking in awe at the amazing table decorations and gorgeous fountain in the middle of the room.

As we chatted around our tables waiting for the night to officially begin, we enjoyed the delectable snowflake cookies made by Mrs D’Odorico. Our College Captain, Rachel Hoch, then welcomed us all as entrées began to be served, and we indulged in the delicious food.

The night continued, intermingled with dancing and many, many photos. Our lessons, under the guidance of Dominique McDonald, paid off as we waltzed better than I think any of us thought would be possible. There was the inevitable stepping on trains and bumping into each other, but it just added to the fun and laughter of the night.

A highlight of the evening would most definitely have been the breathtaking performance by the Senior Music Class, which left us all in awe. After the conclusion of dessert and the cutting of the cake, we all flocked to the dance floor as the balloons dropped and we all participated in an amazing rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody to conclude a night we would remember forever.
