News from the College Libraries

Year 3 – Tech Savvy in the Lilly Pilly Learning Centre:

Our Year 3 students are taking advantage of the new class set of iPads in the Junior School. We have been busy learning how to use the College online library catalogue. We have learnt how to search for books by topics, library – even newly acquired AR reading levels! Students are enjoying these new skills as it allows them to obtain the books they love to read, into their hands – and imagination – even faster than before. Please feel free to stop by our College libraries if you would like to learn how to use these tools as well.

Years 4-6 - Library Focus

Middle primary school students have been discussing how authors make stories exciting and hold readers’ interest by using various techniques, for example character development. Rick Riordan – the author of Percy Jackson – has an exciting new series. This series was so popular after reading the first chapter, it was requested by students to be placed on a hold over five times. We have revised how to find our AR books in Overdrive and in the Library catalogue, and currently, we are learning strategies for effective information searching.

Happy Reading!
