On Wednesday, 26 October, thirty-three of our youngest chess players competed in the Gardiner Chess Individual Age Championship at Emmanuel College, Carrara. The Gold Coast Individual Age Championships is an annual event involving students playing against other students born in the same year, regardless of skill level. This year’s event attracted hundreds of keen competitors with the total number of 750 students earning a Gardiner Chess participation record.
Special mention is extended to Nolan Brezovszky (Year 6) for achieving 12th place in the 2005 division, Ray Li (Year 5) for 7th place in 2007 division and Mitchell Chen (Year 3) for 8th place in 2008 division.
All our students made us proud with their sportsmanship and excellent behaviour in this competitive environment.
The quote of the day belongs to 6-year-old student, when asked if he had won his game, responded “No, I didn’t win, but I learned a lesson”. Keep an eye out for our future Chess Masters!
